Manchester City welcome Shakhtar Donetsk at the Etihad Stadium

Looking to officially win the first place in Group C of the Champions League, Manchester City welcome Shakhtar Donetsk at the Etihad Stadium. We will give you observations about this fixture during our Champions League predictions.

For Man City the situation is pretty simple. The Cityzens are leading the group with 10 points won so far, while Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb follow with 5 points. This means that if they beat Shakhtar on Tuesday, Guardiola’s boys are going to be untouchable at top.

Manchester City were enjoying a run of three consecutive wins in the group before the 1-1 draw with Atalanta in the previous round. The backup goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was sent off nine minutes before the end, but luckily for Pep Guardiola his starting goalkeeper Ederson recovered from his injury. He played full 90 minutes during the 2-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday.

Being 9 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League standings, Manchester City could focus their attention to the Champions League now. Last season the Cityzens were stopped at the 1/4-finals when they got eliminated by another English team – Tottenham Hotspur. City have never won the Champions League in their history, so now they will try do it for a first time.

Shakhtar Donetsk are currently second in the group with 5 points. There’s no doubt that the Ukrainian team will try to finish at least second and progress towards the 1/8-finals. If they manage to win at least a point against Manchester City at the Etihad, this would be great for them.

When Shakhtar hosted Man City in September, the Cityzens dominated and won the game with 3-0. Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus were the players who scored for Man City in Kharkiv.

That’s our Champions League predictions for the match from Group C between Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk. We expect to see a total domination from the home team here.
